Tips: what to visit

Near by Monte Rosa mountain, at Casa e Vela Residence, holiday is a fantastic combination of lake and mountains, to live intensely in every season. From the Residence, in fact, you can reach in an hour the heart of the Alps,  the Natural Park of Veglia, Alpe Devero Nature Reserve, the majestic Monte Rosa, the highest of Europe.

Nature

The National Park ValGrande – 20 minutes from Casa e Vela – is the largest wilderness area in Europe. A mixture of forests and valleys, unchanged from the Middle Ages: a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a wild and uncontaminated nature. From the Residence, you can also quickly reach many other national parks of significant interest, for their important role in the protection and preservation of the environment, ideal places for lovers of “Birdwatching”, among others: Special Nature Reserve “Fondotoce” ,the center of the study about birds migration, where there is also a self-guided nature trail;special reserves of the Sacred Mountains of GhiffaOrta and Domodossola; the Natural Reserve  Langoni di Dormelletto; the Natural Park of Arona “Lagoni di Mercurago”  that proposes a route to discover the first civilizations that populated the shores of Lake Maggiore; in Switzerland the cantonal Reserve Bolle di Magadino, where we counted over 250 species of birds, including the famous Kingfisher or “Martin Pescatore”.

Sports for all

Sailing, windsurfing, swimming, diving, boating are just some of the many things you can do at the Lake Maggiore and at Casa e Vela in particular, which offers its guests an elegant private beach with sun beds and umbrellas, a large pier and the chance to rent canoes, and pedaloò or motor boat, with wich you can reach the Borromeo Islands, with their beautiful gardens and picturesque fishermen’s houses. At the beach you can also go for a snack on the romantic terrace of the Risto Bar Hemingway.

Tours in Nature

Oggebbio, where Casa e Vela is located, offers numerous routes for hikingwalking and mountain biking. Oggebbio consists of fifteen small villages, that can be visited by foot because spread vertically towards the mountain. Each village has its peculiarities: the Church of Gonte with a bell tower among the highest in the Piedmont, is dated 1700, the Church of Novaglio was built in Romanesque style with Gothic elements, offers a spectacular view of the lake. Another possible activity is hiking in the Linea Cadorna. This trail was built as a defensive line in the First World War to counter possible attacks from Switzerland, the route is still viable and non-articulated and resumed the trenches and observation points and stalking. At the reception of the Residence, or to the local tourist office, specific guides are available

The art of Italian Gardens

The Lago Maggiore is world famous for the huge parks of the villas of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. As Villa Taranto, in Verbania: the largest botanical garden in Europe, with thousands of rare plants that come from all over the world, some of which are unique for the continent. Or as the Palazzo Borromeo on Isola Bella: splendid example of Italian garden, laid out on ten terraces overlooking the lake. Then there is the zoological garden of Villa Pallavicino in Stresa, the ideal place for children where you can have a first approach with various animals, or the Alpine Garden in Gignese, which is specialized in alpine plants but there are also species from China and Japan, that have adapted perfectly thanks to the microclimate of the Lake Maggiore.

Trip to Milan

In about an hour you can reach Milan, the fashion city for excellence, where you can find the big names and even clothes Made in Italy at discounted prices thanks the variety of choice: Course Buenos Aires, Via Montenapoleone, Via Torino... All this in an artistic frame of high-profile, to see: Piazza Duomo and Castello Sforzesco.

The town of Locarno hosts every August the Internazionale Film of Locarno; Ascona and Stresa are city of jazz, where every year at the end of June takes place the festival of jazz music. Verbania and Cannero Riviera are city of flowers, there takes place the International Camellia Show in March. All accompanied by several museums ranging from archaeological themes as the Archeological Museum in the city of Arona, to modern art as the Municipal Museum of Modern Art and the Monte Verità in Ascona, a community that hosted important personalities such as James Joyce, Hermann Hesse and Isadora Duncan. Finally the museums on the traditions and crafts of place: The Museum of the art of making hat or “Museo del Cappello Panizza” in Ghiffa, the Museum of Landscape in Verbania-Pallanza, “Casa della Resistenza”, a museum of the First World War, in Fondotoce, the Museum of the art of Umbrella or “Museo dell’Ombrelli” in Gignese, and many others. To visit and photograph the castles and fortresses: the Rock of Angera, where there is also the toy museum, the Castles of Cannero, directly on the water of the Lake, the Visconti Castle of Locarno, the Hermitage of Santa Caterina, etc.
